Work-Out-Doors

Updated: Aug 7, 2020

During quarantine, there was a void in my life that needed to be filled: exercise! While an app training me to do the splits and TikTok dances sufficed, I never felt as sore after those challenges. So what does one do when business re-open while physical distancing is still in effect? You get creative. With thanks to my coach, Ernest Bailey, I present to you, the return of a real work out. And to top it off, the workout was done outside. Let's see what fresh air will do for you.

A beautiful day to sweat

25, June 2020

While gyms and workout centres have reopened throughout the city, my friend Daniel and I have taken a different approach to our regiment. With guidance from our coach, we headed to the beach with a bottle of water and gardening gloves - the remaining equipment was already on location. Not knowing what would happen, I kept an open mind with the day's plans.

Before the workout proceeded, we had to commence a few stretches - nothing too crazy, just simple ones that focused on the back and legs. After a few gentle pulls, we used a bench for the first part of our workout. Step-ups proved that the coordination between my feet got lost once in action. Followed by some lunges that ends with a tip-toe, I quickly found out my form turns into one balancing act. To conclude the bench sessions, we added some inclined push-ups and bench presses... I can say that I still feel that pain in my arms!

Up 'N' Down 'N' at'em again

For the second part of this workout, we went to the sand and performed what I believe was the true challenge. Running up the beach wasn't so bad, but I have a lot of cardio to pick up (especially if I want to lose that belly fat). The second part, however, was the death of my legs. Not only did the exercise involve running, but backwards. Believe me, running uphill in reverse was not what I had in mind - but there are benefits for your butt.

My form may be wrong, but my butt hurts, and that's all that matters

To complete the workout, we got ourselves a rock and began lifting it like a weight. I must admit, the rock idea was quite genius, as we used that for bicep curls, overhead press, and even squats; and that's on utilizing your resources. While my rock may look small, the exercise was not simple. I could barely squat the last set, let alone lift if overhead (because it wouldn't be a challenge without the lift!)

Protect your hands, and get to lifting

Got to admit, working out outside has its benefits: the scenery, the motivation from coach and friend, as well as eye candy strolling by - just look, no touching. As the weather continues to warm up, I look forward to the next sessions with the coach. Not to worry, I will learn to embrace the sun(block).

Following the motto of my shirt

If you like to know more about my workout program, please feel free to contact Ernest Bailey, he is a fantastic coach. I have been a client of his for the past seven months, and it's been an exciting journey. Just waiting for the day that I get to see my abs, butts, and chest (my abcs, if you will).
