PB&P: A Sandwich Review

Updated: Jul 22, 2020

When it comes to peanut butter, I usually think of two things: on bread, or for my dog. I wasn't really fond of jam when I was younger, so to hear about this definitely peaked my interest. So what happens when you combine these two ingredients together? Well, let's devour this one.

Meant to be together(?)

A few weeks ago, I went on a shopping spree, purchasing items from left to right. I wasn't looking for specific items, just wanted to support some local businesses. With the help of Instagram, I stumbled upon Mumgry, where one peculiar post caught my attention:

That's right, a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. I never knew such a combination existed! While I don't have a hate towards pickles, I have never gone out of my way to buy pickles. But being a curious eater, I thought I'd give this sandwich a try.

So I went to buy some pickles, only to realize the mass variety available at the grocery store. With the smallest jar I could find, I settled on bread and butter pickles, and hoped that I selected the right kind. You think once I got home, I would go into the kitchen and whip me up a sandwich, right? Well, it took me about three weeks later to get on this taste test... What can I say, the peanut butter was delicious on its own!

Jump to Canada Day, and I finally got to see whether this sandwich was worth what people rave it to be (a lot of people online have discussed about this topic, actually)! For this sandwich, I used whole wheat bread, toasted to perfection, and proceeded to assembly.

Here's to opening up to new experiences

Being very generous with the peanut butter, I covered each side with a nice thick layer, placing two thin slices of pickles in between before sealing the envelope. At a glance, the colours were vibrant, looking quite appetizing. I thought this sandwich would be more enjoyable if it was cut into small squares - triangles didn't seem right.

But how does it taste?

So without further hesitation and an empty stomach, I went in for the dive. I decided to capture the first bite on camera - I'm still practicing how to use my tripod, hence, my cut forehead. But anyways:

Never knew I needed this

Oh wow, this little sandwich is tasty! With the first bite, you get the sourness from the pickle, quickly followed by the sweetness of the peanut butter. The crunch and crisp sounds mix in together, and it's heavenly! Naturally, sweet and sour go well together, but who knew it would come in the form of a sandwich - I also found myself full after eating this (chicken pot pie was not necessary afterwards).

If anything, peanut butter and pickles might become a staple afternoon snack for me. Please make sure to check out and order some Mumgry, Lilian's peanut butter is so rich and tasty, my aunt claimed it to have 'too much peanut' - that's how you know it's good. Not to mention, Mumgry is a part of the Black Parade Route, by Beyoncé.

Lookin' like a snack to me
